Angels reliever Jason Bulger allowed four runs in just one inning as the club's bullpen continues to struggle.

After the game, the Angels designated reliever Daniel Davidson for assignment and called up pitcher Fernando Rodriguez from Salt Lake.

Ervin Santana threw 24 pitches in two innings of an extended spring training game in Arizona on Friday. John Lackey was scheduled to throw Saturday. Both are recovering from injuries.

- Almost seven months removed from a 100-win season that happened to be the best record in Baseball last year, much has been made about the Angels' poor start in 2009.

But after Sunday, Angels fans can talk about a great start. Even if it's for a short time.

The man responsible for such potential chatter is Jered Weaver, the right-hander who pitched seven scoreless innings in the Angels' 8-0 victory over Seattle.

Weaver yielded just three hits, struck out five and slashed his season ERA to 2.45 while improving his record to 2-1.

It was a much-welcomed dose of consistency for an injury-ravaged team that's struggled both in the batter's box and on the pitching mound.

The beginning of a turnaround? Hard to tell from just one game.

"It was just a matter of time before guys get their groove back and we start rolling," Weaver said. "We're not worried about our start. We're going to be just fine. It's a long season."

A few days ago, it looked as though it might be an especially long season for Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick, who'd been hitless in five of six games entering Thursday's contest vs. Detroit.
