Los Angeles Angels Roster Report 2009-07-04

--After Friday's game, the Angels optioned IF Sean Rodriguez back to Class AAA Salt Lake and recalled 2B Howie Kendrick. In 19 games since being demoted, Kendrick hit .338 (25 for 74) with six doubles, a triple, two home runs and 11 RBI. Kendrick was hitting just .231 when the Angels sent him down.

--2B Howie Kendrick's return could mean less playing time for SS Erick Aybar. Maicer Izturis has been starting at second base most days since Kendrick's demotion and Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated he would make some starts at shortstop now. Izturis was 3-for-4 Friday and is batting .395 (15 for 38) in his past 10 games. Izturis has scored 17 runs and driven in 15 in his past 16 starts.

--RHP Sean O'Sullivan could find himself back in Class AAA Salt Lake after his start Saturday. With an off day on Thursday, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the team would "probably not" use a fifth starter again until after the All-Star break. The Angels are likely to want O'Sullivan to continue starting on a regular basis in the meantime.

--1B Kendry Morales hit his 14th home run of the season Friday. All 14 have come with the switch-hitter batting left-handed. Morales now has extra-base hits in 12 of his past 17 starts (eight doubles, one triple, six home runs).
