--The Angels offered salary arbitration to free agents John Lackey and Chone Figgins before the Dec. 1 deadline. Figgins reached a preliminary agreement with Seattle, and the Angels would get two high picks as compensation if he signs. The same will be true if and when Lackey signs elsewhere. --The Angels did not offer arbitration to free agents Darren Oliver and Vladimir Guerrero. They can continue to negotiate with both but will not receive compensation if either signs with another team. Oliver is a Type A free agent (two picks as compensation). Guerrero is a Type B free agent (one pick). --OF Torii Hunter underwent surgery to repair a mild sports hernia he suffered last season. Recovery from the surgery is expected to take six to eight weeks. The Angels have been assured by Hunter's doctor that he will be fully recovered by the opening of spring training in mid-February.
--1B Kendry Morales will switch from uniform No. 19 to No. 8 next season. Morales has worn 22 and 19 in his first major league seasons. The most recent Angels player to wear No. 8 on a regular basis was backup catcher Josh Paul in 2005. Oft-injured prospect Dallas McPherson also wore No. 8 during his brief big-league time with the Angels.
--Veteran broadcasters Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler will not be part of the Angels' broadcast team in 2010. Physioc spent 14 seasons with the Angels and Hudler 11. The Angels and Fox Sports said the moves were made in order to "create greater consistency on our telecasts." The Angels had rotated six broadcasters on TV and radio the past two seasons. Rory Markas and Mark Gubicza will handle TV now, with Terry Smith and Jose Mota on radio.
