"You look back on that now and all that we went through as a team -- it means a lot more," catcher Jeff Mathis said. "We were in the same situation last year (winning the division). But the things that happened this year with Nick and everything, it feels like it's pretty special."

The Angels acknowledged Adenhart each night by hanging his jersey in the dugout. After the final out of Monday's clinching victory, pitching coach Mike Butcher carried the jersey onto the field, handing it off to Jered Weaver, who raised it for the crowd to see.

Later, the players doused Adenhart's jersey with champagne in the clubhouse celebration.

"We just wanted him to know he was here and we haven't forgotten about him and let the fans know he's going to be with us every step of the way," Weaver said.
