ANGELS 7, RANGERS 0: The Angels reached 100 victories for the first time in franchise history with a three-hit shutout of the Rangers on the final day of the regular season. Pitching for the first time in 10 days because of a kidney stone that forced him to be scratched from one start, LHP Joe Saunders went six shutout innings, then handed it over to the bullpen. Saunders finished with a team-high 17 victories. C Mike Napoli led the offense with two doubles and a home run, driving in four runs. The Angels are the first team to finish with 100 wins since the 2005 Cardinals and the first American League team since the 2004 Yankees.
--The Angels announced their postseason roster following Sunday's game. The 10-man pitching staff includes rookie RHP Kevin Jepsen who made his major league debut on Sept. 8. It does not include veteran RHP Justin Speier, who finished the season with eight losses and 15 home runs allowed in 68 innings. Speier's ERA was 5.53 in 47 appearances after April. Manager Mike Scioscia also confirmed that the team will go with three starting pitchers in the first round (John Lackey, Ervin Santana and Joe Saunders), and Jon Garland and Jered Weaver will be in the bullpen.
--RHP Ervin Santana struck out five in his final regular-season start Saturday night, giving him 214 strikeouts for the season. That is the most by an Angels pitcher since Chuck Finley struck out 215 during the 1996 season.
--RHP Jose Arredondo picked up his 10th victory in relief Friday night, joining the Angels' five starting pitchers (John Lackey, Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, Jon Garland and Jered Weaver) with a double-digit win total. The Angels are the first team since the 1998 New York Yankees to have six pitchers with at least 10 wins each (Andy Pettitte, David Wells, David Cone, Hideki Irabu, Orlando Hernandez and Ramiro Mendoza). It is the first time the Angels have had six pitchers with 10 or more wins in the same season.
--RF Vladimir Guerrero was given the day off Sunday, so he finished the season with 27 home runs and a .303 batting average. That is the 11th consecutive season Guerrero has hit 25 or more home runs with a .300 or better average, matching Lou Gehrig (1927-37) for the longest streak of 25/.300 seasons in baseball history.
--RHP Darren O'Day underwent an MRI on his right shoulder and was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum on Friday. The exam revealed a torn labrum in O'Day's pitching shoulder. He will follow a rehabilitation and strengthening program.
BY THE NUMBERS: 61 -- Angels' victories by one or two runs this season, the most in the majors.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "If it was my decision, I wouldn't be starting." -- RHP Jon Garland, on his second-half slump and role in the postseason. He'll be working out of the bullpen in October.
SS Maicer Izturis (torn ligament in left thumb) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 14. He had season-ending surgery Aug. 19.
RHP Kelvim Escobar (torn labrum in right shoulder) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 1. He had season-ending surgery July 29. Recovery time is expected to be 10 to 12 months.
