Angels Clip Orioles behind Lackey, Abreu
John Lackey did more than just handcuff the Orioles for 8 sparkling innings Thursday night as the Angels beat the Orioles 5-2 in front of a packed house at Angel Stadium. You see, Lackey did exactly what was expected from the club’s ace as the Halos began a crucial ten game homestand. He did everything except personally wiping the beer driblets from Arte Moreno’s mustache.
Lackey, scattered four hits, allowing 2 runs, while striking out 7, got great defensive help and timely hitting, courtesy of Bobby Abreu’s 14th career multi home run game (and first as a Halo) and knocked in four runs. Brian Fuentes picked up his big league leading 23rd save, and might I add, is starting to instill a little confidence from the Angels faithful after a handful of blown saves earlier this year.
The game started out as advertised, a battle of staff aces as both Lackey and Jeremy Guthrie of the Oriole’s were superb early on. However, in the Angels half of the fifth, Guthrie was touched by Abreu for his second home run of the game, this one, of the three run variety, put the Angels up 5-1 and ahead to stay. Chone Figgins, as usual, sparked the Angels lineup, going 3-4.
On Friday night, Ervin Santana makes his much awaited return after not having pitched since mid June, and you can bet that the Angels brass will be paying special attention. The Angels chances of going beyond the first round rest heavily on the right handers ability to be healthy and resemble last year’s form.
Until next time Angel fans

For sure I will check out your blog - is it under MLBlogs? Abreu last night was somewhat of a rare sighting - and even though we won, I can definitely see you O’s have laid the groundwork (Finally!) for a bright future… Adam Jones, Markakis, Weiters, all that pitching - hope you guys keep them all.
